The YMF754 kernel driver and mixer application lets you use almost all your soundcard’s features under BeOS R5.

YMF754-based soundcards usually came with these nice features:

  1. 4-Speaker PCI based Yamaha YMF-754 Sound Generator
  2. Digital Sound card (Optical, Coaxial, AES/EBU or S/PDIF in/out)
  3. internal Audio Input: CD-In, Video-In (Audio input from the TV Card), modem, AUX
  4. external Audio Input
  5. Front/Rear speaker-output
  6. MIDI I/O
  7. Gameport

Compatible cards were produced by Hoontech, Labway, Guillemot and even a few notebook computers were YMF754-based.

What started out as a Christmas project 2000 turned into one of the most powerful audio drivers available for BeOS. Sadly, some AMD-based PC mainboards had severe problems with the YMF754 chipset. While a fix worked for some of them, the driver would still crash on others.

The driver was released to the public on March 5, 2001 and was voted ‘SW of the week’ by www.benews.com.

This version will run under BeOS R5:
