When I decided to switch from my serial PenPartner table to something not blocking the serial line I constantly needed for kernel debugging, I found myself buying a HyperPen tablet from Aiptek. While these were not coming in transparent plastic housings like the ones from a competitor and were still battery powered (AAAA type battery in the pen) I was in need of a driver.
Although the tablet would comply to the USB HID specification, there was a special command needed to get the device started. Aiptek was kindly providing me with the missing information and on October 18th, 2000 the first public beta was released.
